My passion has always been interior decoration, color and arranging things to create a balanced and beautiful home. I was matching colors in selecting my clothes since the age of 3 and am still known for my instincts in harmonizing colors. It is a natural talent, and I am grateful for the joy that creating beautiful homes has brought in my life.
Early on, I realized that having a beautiful and comfortable home does not require going out and buying all new expensive furniture. While that is certainly nice, it is not realistic for most people who live on a budget.
I remember using fruit crates as bookcases in my first apartment. I still have a sideboard in my house that bought many years ago for $50 that I took a garden hose to and reworked. It is still there even though I could replace it with something new. It is often mistaken for a valuable antique. I also appreciate the effect beauty and balance, both indoors and outdoors, has on the way I feel and relax when I am at home.
I practiced law for many years and during those years, for fun, I’ve helped friends with many decorating projects, move-in suggestions for bringing their personality to a new home, furniture arrangements, color selections, hanging art and even hanging wallpaper and making draperies. After helping a physician friend with a decorating project, she sent me an email (it may have been 2 emails) saying that I was wasting my time practicing law– my decorating talent was being wasted.
I am excited to have now opened my own interior redesign business, ChambreChic and look forward to working with clients to create their own beautiful spaces.
I completed a 5-day Association of Design Education interior redesign training program with Barbara Greene of Redesign Today where I learned much about the science of furniture placement, hanging art and the basic components of how to accomplish a successful redesign. It involves both art and science. The opportunity to put the skills I learned to work as we completed redesign projects in 3 homes gave me the opportunity to see the client delight and pleasure when they came home to a redesigned space.
I believe a home should be a nurturing, comfortable environment in which to relax and live life in and share with friends and family. I also think that all homes should include a bit of whimsy in the form of art, accessories or garden elements to make you smile when you walk in the door.
